Scale
Main Ingredients
- 2 cups green cabbage, roughly chopped
- 1 (28-ounce) can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
- 2 cups marinara sauce
Optional Garnishes
- Grated Romano cheese, for serving
- Crushed red pepper flakes, for serving
Instructions
- Boil the Cabbage: Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the roughly chopped green cabbage. Boil for 5 to 10 minutes or until the cabbage is softened. Once cooked, drain the cabbage thoroughly to remove excess water.
- Combine and Heat: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, combine the cooked cabbage, rinsed and drained cannellini beans, and marinara sauce. Stir occasionally and cook for about 10 minutes until the mixture is heated through and well combined.
- Serve and Garnish: Serve the cabbage and beans mixture immediately. Optionally, sprinkle grated Romano cheese and crushed red pepper flakes on top to add a savory and spicy touch according to your taste.
Notes
- Be sure to rinse and drain the canned beans well to reduce sodium content.
- Adjust the cooking time of cabbage depending on your preferred tenderness.
- This dish pairs well with crusty bread or over a bed of steamed rice for a fuller meal.
- For a vegan version, omit Romano cheese or use a plant-based alternative.
