Ingredients
Scale
Salmon and Seasoning
- 1 lb. wild salmon fillets
- Big pinch of salt and pepper
Spice Rub
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon coconut sugar
Glaze
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat the Broiler: Preheat your oven’s broiler on high to ensure even and fast cooking of the salmon fillets.
- Prepare the Salmon: Lightly oil the salmon fillets and place them skin-side down on a rimmed baking sheet. Season generously with salt and pepper to bring out the natural flavors.
- Make the Spice Rub: In a small bowl, whisk together chili powder, paprika, and coconut sugar. Rub this spice mixture evenly over the top of each salmon fillet to create a balanced, spicy-sweet coating.
- Cook the Salmon: Place the baking sheet on the top rack of the oven and broil the salmon for about 8 minutes, or until the fillets are opaque, flaky, and cooked through without being dry.
- Apply the Maple Glaze: Remove the salmon from the oven and brush the 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup generously over the top of each fillet. Return the salmon to the broiler for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the glaze bubbles and caramelizes slightly for a beautiful, glossy finish.
- Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven and serve immediately while warm and flavorful.
Notes
- Use wild salmon for the best flavor and texture.
- Keep a close eye while broiling to prevent burning, especially during the maple syrup glaze step.
- You can substitute coconut sugar with brown sugar if unavailable.
- For a spicier dish, increase the chili powder slightly or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Serve with steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
