Description

These Crispy Fried Mushrooms with Cool Ranch Dip are a delightful appetizer perfect for any occasion. Fresh button mushrooms are coated in a seasoned flour mixture, dipped in egg, and breaded with crunchy panko breadcrumbs before being fried to golden perfection. Paired with a tangy, creamy cool ranch dip made from sour cream and mayonnaise seasoned with ranch mix and fresh dill, this recipe promises a flavorful snack that’s both crispy and refreshing.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms and Coating

  • 1 lb fresh button mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Cool Ranch Dip

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ranch seasoning mix (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp fresh dill, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms thoroughly and remove the stems. Pat them dry to ensure the coating sticks well.
  2. Set Up the Dredging Station: In three separate shallow bowls, place the seasoned flour mixture (flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper), the beaten eggs, and the breadcrumbs.
  3. Bread the Mushrooms: First, coat each mushroom in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then dip the flour-coated mushroom into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off. Finally, coat the mushroom in the breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to ensure even coverage. Repeat for all mushrooms.
  4. Fry the Mushrooms: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pan to 350°F (175°C). In batches, carefully fry the breaded mushrooms for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  5. Make the Cool Ranch Dip: In a bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, fresh dill, and lemon juice if using. Mix well and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Serve the hot, crispy fried mushrooms alongside the cool ranch dip for a perfect contrast of flavors and textures.

Notes

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Make sure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to avoid greasy mushrooms.
  • Drain mushrooms well on paper towels to keep them crispy.
  • The dip can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for enhanced flavors.
  • Optional fresh dill and lemon juice add brightness to the dip but can be omitted.
