Description

This hearty Crockpot Pierogi Casserole with Kielbasa is a comforting, easy-to-make slow cooker meal featuring layers of frozen potato and cheddar pierogies, savory kielbasa sausage, and a creamy cheese sauce. Perfect for busy days, it combines rich flavors with simple preparation and a melty cheese topping, making it an ideal American comfort food dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 (16 oz) boxes frozen potato and cheddar pierogies
  • 14 oz kielbasa sausage, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
  • 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, cubed and softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the slow cooker: Spray the inside of a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Make the creamy cheese mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix until smooth and well blended to create a flavorful sauce layer.
  3. Layer the casserole: Place half of the frozen pierogies evenly in the slow cooker. Top with half of the sliced kielbasa and diced onion. Spoon half of the cream cheese mixture over this layer.
  4. Repeat layering: Add the remaining pierogies, kielbasa, and onion in the same order, then top with the rest of the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Add cheese topping: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the entire casserole.
  6. Cook the casserole: Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or on high for 2 to 3 hours, until the casserole is hot and bubbly throughout.
  7. Finish and serve: Gently stir the casserole before serving to combine layers slightly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a fresh, colorful touch.

Notes

  • Add a handful of spinach or frozen peas during the last hour of cooking for extra color and nutrition.
  • For a crispier topping, transfer cooked casserole to a baking dish, top with extra cheese, and broil for 3–5 minutes before serving.
