Ingredients
Scale
Pinwheels
- 1 (8 oz) can crescent roll dough
- 1/2 pound (225g) thinly sliced roast beef
- 1 cup (100g) shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Au Jus
- 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a flat surface and press the seams together to form one large rectangle suitable for layering.
- Layer Ingredients: Evenly spread Dijon mustard over the dough, then layer with thinly sliced roast beef followed by shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese.
- Roll and Slice: Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 1-inch thick pinwheels.
- Arrange and Season: Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Brush them with melted butter, then sprinkle garlic powder and dried rosemary evenly over the top.
- Bake: Bake the pinwheels in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Make Au Jus: While pinwheels bake, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes to develop the flavors.
- Serve: Serve the warm pinwheels alongside the au jus dipping sauce for a delightful French dip-inspired treat.
Notes
- Ensure the crescent dough seams are pressed well to prevent the roll from separating during baking.
- Thinly sliced roast beef is best for easy rolling and even layers.
- Substitute with mozzarella cheese if provolone isn’t available.
- Au jus can be kept warm on low heat while the pinwheels bake.
- Optionally, add caramelized onions inside for extra flavor.
