Description

Soft and flavorful garlic bread rolls made from scratch with a tender, buttery dough infused with garlic and parsley. These rolls are perfect as a side for dinners or as a savory snack, featuring a golden crust and optional Parmesan topping for extra richness.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for dough)

Garlic Butter

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing rolls)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the liquid and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make the Dough: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and 2 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook on medium speed to knead for 5 minutes.
  3. First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free area for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Prepare Garlic Butter: While the dough rises, mix olive oil, minced garlic, and chopped fresh parsley in a small bowl to make the garlic butter mixture.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each portion into a ball. Arrange the dough balls evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Brush the tops generously with the prepared garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
  6. Second Rise: Cover the baking dish and let the rolls rise again for 30 minutes until they become puffy and nearly double in size.
  7. Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown on top and cooked through.
  8. Finish with Butter: Immediately after removing the rolls from the oven, brush them with the remaining melted unsalted butter to add shine and extra flavor before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
  • Kneading can be done by hand or in a stand mixer, whichever you prefer.
  • For extra flavor, add grated Parmesan cheese on top before the second rise.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 2 days.
  • Reheat rolls in the oven before serving for a fresh-baked taste.
