Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box)
Toppings and Layers
- 30 Oreos, crushed
- 12.8 oz hot fudge sauce
- 3.4 oz instant chocolate pudding mix (first package)
- 1 3/4 cups milk (for first pudding mix)
- 3.4 oz instant chocolate pudding mix (second package)
- 1 3/4 cups milk (for second pudding mix)
- 8 oz Cool Whip, thawed
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Prepare and bake the chocolate cake in a 9×13 baking pan according to the package instructions. Once baked, allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes.
- Create Pockets: Use the back of a spoon to gently poke holes evenly across the surface of the warm cake to allow the fudge to seep in.
- Apply Hot Fudge: Warm the hot fudge sauce until it is pourable, then evenly pour it over the cake, letting it seep into the holes. Allow the cake to cool completely to set the fudge layer.
- Prepare First Pudding Layer: Whisk together the first package of chocolate pudding mix with 1 3/4 cups milk until smooth. Before it sets, pour this pudding evenly over the cooled cake layer. Place the cake in the refrigerator and chill for about 20 minutes.
- Prepare Second Pudding Layer: In a separate bowl, mix the second package of chocolate pudding mix with another 1 3/4 cups milk. Refrigerate this mixture until it sets, approximately 10 minutes.
- Combine Cool Whip and Oreos: Fold the thawed Cool Whip into the set pudding mixture, then stir in about three-quarters of the crushed Oreos for texture and flavor. Spread this creamy mixture evenly over the pudding layer on top of the cake.
- Finish with Oreo Topping: Sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreos on top to add a crunchy finish. Refrigerate the completed cake until ready to serve, or serve immediately for best freshness.
Notes
- Allow the cake to cool completely before adding pudding layers to prevent melting or sogginess.
- Use room temperature Cool Whip for easier folding with the pudding.
- This dessert tastes best when chilled for a few hours to allow flavors to meld.
- You can substitute hot fudge sauce with a chocolate ganache if preferred.
- For an extra twist, add crushed Oreos between the cake and pudding layers as well.
