Ingredients
Scale
Meat & Vegetables
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 14 ounces shaved steak
- 1 small sweet onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small red bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Seasonings & Condiments
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Montreal steak seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
Dough & Cheese
- 16 ounces (2 tubes) crescent rolls
- 1 1/2 cups shredded provolone cheese
Egg Wash
- 1 large egg
- Splash of water
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large sheet tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
- Cook Steak: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the shaved steak and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown on both sides, about 8 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, melt the salted butter. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper, cooking until softened, approximately 8 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to release its aroma.
- Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Add Worcestershire sauce and Montreal steak seasoning. Stir everything together until well combined, then remove from heat.
- Assemble Ring Base: Place a small bowl upside down in the center of the prepared sheet tray. Arrange the crescent roll triangles around the bowl in a sunburst pattern, leaving the wider base of each triangle facing outward.
- Fill Ring: Spread the meat and vegetable mixture evenly around the inside edge of the crescent roll circle, leaving the tips free. Top the filling with shredded provolone cheese for melty richness.
- Close Ring: Gently pull the crescent roll triangle tips over the filling, tucking the ends underneath the base to seal the ring.
- Make Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the large egg and a splash of water to create an egg wash which will help achieve a golden, shiny finish.
- Brush and Bake: Brush the exposed crescent roll crust generously with the egg wash. Optionally, sprinkle the dried parsley over the top for a touch of color and flavor. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Allow the Philly Cheesesteak Crescent Ring to cool slightly before slicing into wedges. Serve warm and enjoy this flavorful twist on a classic sandwich!
Notes
- You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or cheddar for a different flavor profile.
- For spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or hot sauce to the meat mixture.
- Use store-bought shaved steak or thinly slice sirloin steak if shaved is unavailable.
- If crescent rolls are not available, puff pastry dough can be used as an alternative.
- Make sure to tuck the crescent roll tips well underneath to prevent the filling from spilling out during baking.
