Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 bag (10 oz) mini marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Toppings
- 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips or crushed pretzels
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray to ensure easy removal of the treats later.
- Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the mini marshmallows, stirring constantly until they are completely melted and the mixture becomes smooth and cohesive.
- Add Flavors: Stir in the caramel sauce, sea salt, and vanilla extract into the melted marshmallow mixture, blending thoroughly to combine all flavors evenly.
- Combine with Cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat immediately. Fold in the Rice Krispies cereal, carefully mixing until every piece is well coated with the marshmallow-caramel blend.
- Press into Pan: Quickly transfer and press the mixture into the prepared baking dish using a buttered spatula or wax paper to compress it evenly and prevent sticking.
- Top and Finish: Sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of the pressed mixture. Add any optional toppings like mini chocolate chips or crushed pretzels as desired.
- Cool and Set: Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for 30–45 minutes until firm enough to slice into squares.
Notes
- For a richer, nuttier flavor, brown the butter before adding the marshmallows.
- Drizzle extra caramel or melted chocolate over the treats after setting for a more indulgent finish.
